Accessibility statement for fostering

This statement applies to content published on the Islington Fostering website.
This website is run by Islington Council. It is designed to be used by as many people as possible. The text should be clear and simple to understand. You should be able to:

  • Zoom in up to 200% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • The text colour on some links when they receive the keyboard focus or on mouse hover do not have sufficient colour contrast.
  • The results tab on the search widget is not marked up in a way that is clear to screen reader users who cannot see the screen.  Whilst screen reader users should still be able to access the results, the results tab may be confusing.
  • On mouse over, the ‘Go’ button on the search page does not have sufficient text colour contrast.
  • On the search results page, the label ‘You searched for’ is not programmatically associated with the search text input control.  This makes the purpose of the search text input control button difficult to understand for screen reader users.
  • On the search results page the label ‘Sort by’ is not programmatically associated with the search option drop down control.  This makes the purpose of the search option drop down control button difficult to understand for screen reader users.
  • Pink text on a black background in the footer regions does not have sufficient colour contrast.
  • The social media links in the footer do not have accessible names.  Screen reader users who cannot see the screen will not be able to determine the purpose of these links.
  • Some of the buttons on the cookie banner do not have a keyboard focus indicator.
  • The page breadcrumb is removed when zoomed to 200%.  This means that some partially sighted users and mobile users will not see the breadcrumb.
